Today, we’re pleased to announce automated SSL/TLS certificate management for Brightbox Load Balancers, using Let’s Encrypt!
Brightbox Load Balancers distribute traffic to your web application across a pool of Cloud Servers. They are highly available via anycast routing, providing deep fault tolerance and utilise remappable IPv4 addressing via our Cloud IP functionality for complete flexibility.
Simple and high performance HTTPS acceleration for our Load Balancers has been available for a few years now but you still had to purchase your own certificate and handle the renewal process yourself as normal. Let’s Encrypt changes that.
Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated, and open Certificate Authority (CA), run by the non-profit Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). It enables automated registration and renewal of certificates, at no cost.
Our new automated certificate management feature means you can now just tell your Load Balancers which domains you want to accept and they will create a certificate for you and keep it renewed without needing any intervention. And at no extra cost.
That means no more Certificate Signing Requests, no more PEM files, no more certificate chains, no more yearly renewals! It just works.
It’s ready to use right now! and is fully supported in Brightbox Manager and also via our API. Support for our CLI tool will follow soon.
Check out the guide to using Let’s Encrypt enabled load balancers or read the reference documentation for more details. Of course, any questions drop us a line and we’ll be happy to help.
