We’ve just rolled out a new feature for our Cloud SQL service: custom maintenance windows.
Every Cloud SQL instance is regularly updated with the latest security updates and bug fixes. These updates can sometimes require a short interruption to service to take effect, so they’re applied within a specific time period each week that we refer to as the maintenance window.
This defaults to be each Sunday, between 6am and 7am UTC. That time isn’t necessarily suitable for all use cases, so we now allow you to customise it. It still has to be weekly, but it can be any day at any hour.
You can customise the maintenance window of each of your Cloud SQL instances individually, so you can stagger your different instances.
Existing instances will keep using the default until you decide to change it, which you can do by editing them using Brightbox Manager (or the CLI tool of course).
